My one word for 2019

When resolutions seem overwhelming.

Sometimes, coming up with big resolutions or goals for the year ahead can be daunting. The infinite possibilities, instead of inspiring can be frightening.

While stating your specific desires is the best way to manifest, another surprisingly focused approach is this: pick one word that acts as your reference point, your anchor for the year.

Last year, mine (for obvious reasons) was: BALANCE.

I was still in the midst of the healing process in 2017 and something I was struggling with was wildly fluctuating to being so chill I was stagnating to being manically busy and nearing burnout.

I could never seem to find the happy medium on my spirit(ual) level.

This year, I’ve chosen: BRAVE.

I’m happier and healthier than I’ve been in a long time. But I know that fear is currently holding me back. I’m avoiding action. I’m scared if I overwork myself, I’ll be ill again.
I’m scared of failing.
Scared of success.
Scared of what other people will think.
Scared I’m not deserving enough.
Scared I’ll look stupid.
Scared I’m dreaming too big.
Scared I might shake up my life so much I don’t recognise myself anymore.

But those feelings are perfectly normal. They’re signs I’m stepping out of my comfort zone. And the fact I’m not used to those feelings also signifies that I haven’t stepped outside of my own safety bubble in a long, long time.

That means I’m not living my life to the full. Not fulfilling my potential. I’m just coasting, comfortably.

So my word for the year will prompt me to be more brave. To act with courage. To embrace the fear and bloody well do it anyway.

Any decision or plan I make in 2019 will be put through the filter of my one word. Am I settling for the easy option or challenging myself? Is the experience unprecedented, and going to make me feel momentarily uncomfortable? Am I willing to take a risk?

I don’t have much advice in the way of choosing your own word for the year. But you’ll absolutely know when you’ve picked the right one.

All I can say is that the word should apply to as many areas of your life as possible, so think about how you want to (perhaps) change up your career / relationships / finances / health / hobbies.

Some words for consideration / inspiration (not gonna lie, I ruminated on all of these before settling on ‘brave’):

~ INVEST ~ CHALLENGE ~ COURAGE ~ ACCOMPLISH ~ IMPROVE ~ SIMPLIFY ~ LOVE ~ NURTURE ~ WELLNESS ~ RESTORE ~ BALANCE ~ CREATE ~ ABUNDANCE ~ AUTHENTIC ~ LIGHTEN ~ SELF ~ GROWTH ~ PERSIST ~ KNOWLEDGE ~ SLOW ~DISCONNECT ~ RECONNECT ~ DECLUTTER ~ STRENGTH ~ HEAL ~ MOVE ~ TRANSFORM ~ EVOLVE ~ HEALTH ~ CHANGE ~ FAMILY ~ DREAM ~ BE ~

Let me know if any of this resonated, and feel free to share your own word!
