“My parents are buddhists which is a huge influence.”

I guess you could say I’ve always wanted to be a singer.

I started singing at a very young age. However, songwriting came to me in my late teens, so I’m still trying to grasp writing and finding inspiration.

Kate Bush is a huge inspiration for me; her stage presence and use of eccentric clothing inspires me for live performances. Lyrically, contemporary female musicians inspire me such as Daughter, Jessie Ware and Lianne La Havas. They are absolutely smashing it.

Great opportunities can arise but when you don’t have a manager, PR or a record label – you have to keep moving from one opportunity to the next all on your own; all the organising takes so much time that when it finally comes around to the big day you really are just focusing on getting it right.

The excitement will often come afterwards and by then I feel like it was well deserved.

My parents are buddhists which is a huge influence. My mum is very spiritual – she does more yoga than me! I have most of her crystals and books on aromatherapy. She has always taught me to stay grounded.
